Hot Brits: UK Actors on the Rise

Posted by Tsaress with 1 Comment

MSN has made a list of the hottest new actors coming from the UK. Ben has placed third on the list.

Seems the looker from London is good for more than just dressing up as Prince Caspian in the Narnia series. A versatile fellow, he played a dodgy Russian in Bigga Than Ben before slipping back into his finery for Easy Virtue and Dorian Gray. He’ll soon appear opposite Elisha Dushku in Locked In and a host of other Brits in the promising Killing Bono, about an aspiring rock band who happened to go to school with U2.

Ben Returns to Stage in Birdsong Premiere

Posted by Tsaress with 4 Comments

According to WhatsOnStage, Ben will be returning to the London stage this fall.

British film star Ben Barnes will return to the stage to star as Stephen Wraysford in the world premiere stage version of Sebastian Faulks’ Birdsong, according to today’s Daily Mail. The adaptation of the best-selling 1993 novel, directed by Trevor Nunn, will have a limited season from 29 September 2010 (previews from 18 September) at the West End’s Comedy Theatre.

Part of Faulks’ trilogy which also comprises The Girl at the Lion d’Or and Charlotte Gray, Birdsong centres on Stephen Wraysford (Barnes) who, while staying as the guest of a factory owner in pre-war France, embarks on a passionate affair with Isabelle, the wife of his host. The affair changes them both forever.

A few years later Stephen finds himself back in the same part of France, but this time as a soldier at the Battle of the Somme, the bloodiest encounter in British military history. As his men die around him, Stephen turns to his enduring love for Isabelle for the strength to continue and to save something for future generations.

Madrid Interview

You can view a video interview from Madrid here. Most of the interview is dubbed in Spanish though, so it’s hard to hear Ben speak at times. The last minute or so also shows Ben with Oliver Parker at the Dorian Gray photocall.

Ben Barnes Living The Dream

Ben Barnes says being an actor is his dream job and he feels lucky to be able to do what he loves for a living.
Ben Barnes says acting is his “dream job”.

The British star – who appears in new comedy ‘Killing Bono’, by director Nick Hamm – feels incredibly lucky to be able to do what he loves for a living and can’t imagine doing anything else.

He said: “Acting is my dream job. I’m happy and thankful I’m not one of those people who aren’t sure whether they want to keep doing the job they’ve learnt when they finish their studies. I’m living it!”

The 28-year-old star shot to fame playing Caspian in the ‘Chronicles of Narnia’ series but he’s keen to branch out and take on different roles.

He said: “I’m always looking for new things and experiences, because the end of curiosity is always the beginning of boredom. And boredom is hell on earth.”

Despite his growing film career, Ben, 28, is glad he can still go out without being recognised all the time.

He previously said: “People don’t really notice me. Maybe it’s because I have my hair back or I have a beard. People recognise actors they see regularly, like people they see on television every week. For the most part, people probably have only seen me in one or two films.”
